5. Ongoing Usage

Changes to your contact data can occur at any time. For example, you meet someone new and store the contact in your phone, or a friend changes his or her phone number. There are two ways to back up your new contact data:

Manual and Automatic

Manual Backup

To do a manual backup, simply start the application and select up "Backup Contacts" from the main menu. Skip back to step 3 for more info.

The application will then check to see if any changes are available to be backed up. If changes are available, it will send those changes (and only those changes) to the server.

Automatic Backup

Automatic backups are done periodically by the application. An internal timer tells the application to "wake up" and check to see if any changes have been made to the contacts on the phone. If so, it will try to send up the changes.

This is normally done once every 24 hours, around midnight of whatever time zone you are in. If the application is trying to back up more frequently, it's likely due to a backup that is not completing properly for some reason. Click here for troubleshooting tips.

If the phone is powered off or network connectivity is not available for some other reason, the changes will not be saved. The application will set a new alarm time and will try to back up the changes at that new time.

You can see the number of days since the application last successfully backed up the contact data on the phone:

If the number of days last backed up is greater than two days, you may be experiencing an error. Try manually backing up the data to see if an error message is provided. It may just be that yor phone has been turned off while the application tried to send up the changes.
