iBackup Provides Protection Against Loss of Wireless Data
Wireless Backup and Restoration System
for Mobile Phones Introduced at BREW 2004 Developers Conference
SAN DIEGO - June 8, 2004 - Xpherix Corporation, the leading
developer of high-value, low-cost mobile productivity applications,
today unveiled iBackup, a mobile phone backup and restoration
system. The application was developed for QUALCOMM's BREW
solution and will be demonstrated at the BREW 2004 Developers
Conference in San Diego.
With iBackup, a lost, stolen or damaged
mobile phone doesn't mean the loss of valuable contacts since
mobile subscribers can safeguard their contacts for pennies
a day. With iBackup's easy-to- use menu, subscribers can wirelessly
save the contacts stored in the mobile phone's address book
and restore them at any time on their existing handset or
on a new handset. iBackup also automatically saves contacts
daily if changes are detected so the mobile subscriber does
not have to remember to manually backup contacts. Saved and
restored data can include names, mobile, home and business
numbers and an Email address for each contact.
Xpherix will be demonstrating the iBackup
application, with its intelligible interface and automated
backup capabilities, at the BREW 2004 Partner Pavilion Booth
#4.
iBackup takes full advantage of the operator's
user-friendly graphical interface enabled by the BREW solution
to make the download and use of the application simple and
convenient for the mobile subscriber.
"With the worldwide adoption of
BREW-enabled mobile phones, the number of subscribers at risk
for losing their contacts is staggering," said Nick Walker,
Xpherix president and CEO. "While solutions are available
for replacing a lost, stolen or damaged mobile phone, the
mobile subscriber needs a solution for recovering contact
information."
"The iBackup application is a useful
tool that will allow mobile subscribers to securely protect
against the loss of contact information wirelessly on BREW-enabled
handsets, without having to link back to their desktop,"
said Mike Yuen, director of BREW Developer Relations for QUALCOMM
Internet Services. "The BREW solution is an efficient
mechanism that enables developers like Xpherix to bring valuable
services to the mobile marketplace."
Publishers and developers worldwide are
generating revenue from BREW-based applications and content,
and 26 manufacturers have offered more than 135 BREW-enabled
device models to consumers.
BREW is successfully enabling the commercial
wireless data services of many very successful operators,
including Verizon Wireless, ALLTEL, Cellular One, MetroPCS,
Midwest Wireless and U.S. Cellular in the United States, China
Unicom, KDDI in Japan, KTF in South Korea, Hutch in Thailand,
